Programs

Current Programs:
This school year Beacon Street is offering an arts integrated after school program at two locations in Uptown, Joseph Brennemann Elementary School and Graeme Stewart Elementary School. Funded by the Illinois State Board of Education, City of Chicago Department of Children and Youth Services, and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

Past Programs:
Over the summer, Beacon Street offered an arts based summer camp to youth ages 6-12. Activities included field trips, swimming at the beach, art projects, nature workshops, and classes with visiting artists.
Two teens from the Chicagoland area worked as Teaching Assistants through funding from the City of Chicago's Department of Children and Youth Services.

What is Beacon Street?

We are a 25 year old arts organization dedicated to building community through diversity. Through arts education, gallery exhibition, performance programs and research and documentation, we endeavor to provide youth, families, folk, ethnic, minority, women, and new and emerging artists with opportunities to engage with each other as community learners and teachers.

Our programs pair teaching artists with youth in schools, community centers, and partner organizations. Informed by best practices investigated with the Chicago Teachers' Center, Northeastern Illinois University, and LEAP (Lakeview Education and Arts Partnership), Beacon Street is an advocate for arts integrated education and a founder of programs both locally and internationally recognized.
